
GoCardless Halves Losses, Targets Profitability with Strategic Growth and Cost Efficiency

The London-based payments startup, specializing in recurring payment solutions, reported a notable improvement in its net loss, reflecting a strategic shift towards enhanced cost efficiency and revenue growth. With revenue increasing by 41%, GoCardless reached £132 million in annual revenue, a key milestone in its pursuit of profitability.
The company’s CEO, Hiroki Takeuchi, highlighted the successful restructuring measures implemented in the previous year, including workforce reductions, which helped lower operating expenses. Despite its losses, GoCardless celebrated its first-ever profitable month, marking significant progress toward its long-term profitability goal. The company aims to achieve full-year profitability within the next few years.
In addition to focusing on cost management, GoCardless is also expanding its service offerings. It recently acquired Nuapay, a firm that specializes in bank transfer payment solutions, and is testing new features to help businesses distribute funds to their customers. This acquisition strengthens GoCardless’ position in the competitive fintech space and offers more versatile payment solutions.
While GoCardless has attracted backing from major investors like Alphabet’s GV, Accel, and BlackRock, it has no immediate plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO). Instead, the company is focusing on organic growth and strategic acquisitions to further establish itself in the fintech sector.
