The brown felt fedora worn by Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom sold for $630,000 (£487,000) at a recent auction in Los Angeles. The hat, custom-made for the 1984 film, was featured in a dramatic scene where Indiana Jones and his companions escape from a crashing plane.
Historical Significance and Provenance
The fedora was part of the personal collection of Dean Ferrandini, Harrison Ford’s stunt double, and was sold with previously unpublished photos of Ferrandini wearing the hat on location. The hat, created by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London, features a more tapered crown compared to the original hat from the first film, Raiders of the Lost Ark. Inside, it bears gold monogrammed initials “IJ”.
Other Auction Highlights
The auction also saw the sale of other notable items:
- An imperial scout trooper helmet from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, which sold for $315,000 (£243,000).
- A light-up wand from Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which fetched $53,550 (£41,400).
- A suit worn by Daniel Craig in Skyfall, which sold for $35,000 (£27,000).
Auction House Reaction
Brandon Alinger, Propstore Chief Operating Officer, praised the auction’s success, emphasizing its role in connecting fans with their cherished memorabilia. The fedora’s sale price exceeded that of another Temple of Doom hat auctioned in 2021, which sold for $300,000 (£232,000).
