Monsoon Deluge Disrupts Lahore and Other Regions as Heavy Rainfall Continues Across Pakistan

Lahore: Recent rains in Lahore have brought temporary relief from the mugginess but have also disrupted traffic on major roads, including Canal Road, The Mall, Davies Road, and Lakshmi Chowk.

Monsoon Forecast: Weather experts predict that the monsoon spell will continue until August 25, with ongoing rain expected across the country.

Impact on Punjab: Last week’s rain in Punjab caused significant issues, including the deaths of three laborers and injuries to one more when a roof collapsed in Faisalabad. The injured laborer is receiving treatment at Allied Hospital. Rain-related incidents have resulted in 84 fatalities and 224 injuries in Punjab, with 84 houses reported damaged.

Flooding in Lahore: Several low-lying areas in Lahore experienced severe flooding, creating large puddles and affecting daily life.

Regional Updates:

  • South Punjab: The monsoon rains have disrupted activities in Koh-e-Suleman, with low-level flooding and a 20-foot sinkhole developing in Uch Canal, Ahmedpur East. Water levels in Head Trimmu are rising due to the rain.
  • Sindh: Sukkur recorded 290 millimeters of rain, breaking a 77-year-old record and flooding nearby low-lying areas. Heavy rains have also impacted Larkana, Qaziabad, and Jacobabad. Karachi has experienced prolonged downpours, leaving residents struggling with rainwater-related difficulties.
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: Landslides in Gojal, Hunza, Astore, and Ghizer have destroyed 20 houses and stranded many tourists. Several roads are closed due to heavy rains and flooding.
  • Balochistan: National Highway N-40 remains closed after two days of intense rainfall. Kohlu, Awaran, and Bolan districts have been severely affected by flooding, causing significant challenges for residents.
