Government Suspends Internet and Seals Capital

The Pakistan government has cut mobile and internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It also blocked all major routes to stop the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) march called “Labbaik Ya Aqsa Million March”.

Authorities placed shipping containers on roads and set up barricades to block access to key areas. The move aims to prevent protesters from reaching the US Embassy in Islamabad.

Violence in Lahore During Crackdown

In Lahore, clashes broke out between police and TLP workers on Thursday. The violence began after police raided TLP headquarters to arrest party chief Saad Hussain Rizvi.

At least five police officers and several TLP supporters suffered injuries. The TLP claimed one protester died and 20 were hurt. Police said workers attacked officers with stones and iron rods. Heavy forces remain deployed around the Yateem Khana Chowk area as tension continues.

Section 144 Imposed Across Punjab

The Punjab government has enforced Section 144 for ten days, banning all rallies, protests, and public gatherings.

The order prohibits gatherings of four or more people in public places. However, it allows prayers, weddings, funerals, and court activities. Authorities also banned loudspeakers and weapon displays across the province.

In Rawalpindi, Section 144 stays active until October 11. In Islamabad, the Red Zone is completely sealed, and only authorized vehicles can enter through Margalla Road.

Interior Ministry Tightens Security

The Interior Ministry instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to suspend services indefinitely from Friday midnight.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi approved this step due to security concerns linked to the TLP protest.
Officials are also considering the deployment of Rangers to prevent further violence. “Their presence usually controls religious protests peacefully,” said a senior officer.

TLP Condemns the Crackdown

The TLP spokesperson called the government’s move “unjust and disgraceful.”

“The Punjab government under Maryam Nawaz is using force against peaceful workers. This must stop immediately,” the spokesperson said.

He added that dozens of party members are under arrest, including TLP deputy chief Pir Syed Zaheer-ul-Hassan Shah.

Protest Over Gaza Conflict

The TLP march supports Palestinians in Gaza and condemns Israeli actions. The party accused the government of silencing pro-Palestine voices.

“Supporting Palestine has become a crime in our own country,” the spokesperson said. “The government cannot suppress the truth with force. If arrests continue, public anger will rise.”

Security on High Alert

Security remains tight in Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. Roads are blocked, internet suspended, and forces on alert. The government fears further unrest as TLP supporters prepare for the mass protest.
